Brighton Festival: best events and shows on Tuesday 10 May
A city-wide arts festival continues today.
Back at full capacity for the first time since the pandemic, the Brighton Festival will run from May 7-29.
The festival is expected to feature 150 events, exhibitions, venues and performances over the next month. Here is a list of some of today’s events:
Hugh Cutting Lunchtime Recital at All Saints Church in The Drive, Hove BN3 3QE
Inspired by Michael A. Singer’s philosophical book, The Untethered Soul, this recital takes as its basis the notion of “tethered” and “untethered”.
Conceived during the pandemic, this recital features works by Monteverdi, Purcell, Howells, Vaughan Williams, Benjamin and Muhly.
Tuesday, May 10 at 1 p.m.
Tickets cost £10
The All Saints One Bread Café is open to ticket holders. Pre-concert aperitif available from 12:15 p.m.
Kate McIntosh work table at the Attenborough Center for the Creative Arts, at Gardner Center Rd, Falmer, Brighton BN1 9RA
Worktable is a live installation of several pieces that are constantly moving and changing. Instructions are provided for visitors – along with equipment, safety glasses and gear.
The facility is open from 11am to 8pm, most visitors will spend 60 min+, but are welcome to stay longer.

Summer Commission: Jade Montserrat at Brighton CCA in 58-67 Grand Parade, Brighton BN2 0JY
Jade Montserrat has been commissioned to undertake the summer 2022 commission at Brighton CCA Gallery.
The commission, focusing on articulating the black stories of Montserrat; bodies and narratives, will consist of six new works spanning the 45-metre facade of the galleries in central Brighton.
This will be the artist’s first major public art commission in the UK.
It will take place from Friday April 15 to Wednesday June 1.
The Archive of favorite places, across the city
Residents of Brighton’s communities were asked questions, and local studio Stephenson & weaved twelve tales into an immersive, city-wide exhibition of photography and sound.

Tribune of Witnesses – Adur Estuary at Shoreham by Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey also at Brighton West Pier, East Brighton, Brighton Marina The Chattri
Australian artists Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey commissioned a community of Brighton-linked writers and sound artists to design sound works that respond to five specific sites that resonate with the city’s past, recent and future histories.
The Adur Estuary at Shoreham, the Chattri, the West Pier, East Brighton and Brighton Marina will all be linked in a physical and auditory network.
- Dates and times of the Adur estuary:
Saturday 7 and 2, and Friday 20 and 27 May at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m.
- Witness Stand runs from Saturday May 7 to Sunday May 29 at various times.

Festival co-guest director Marwa Al-Sabouni invites the public to take part in a large-scale plant swap by bringing a plant to the Brighton Dome.

Combining a collection of archival material from home VHS footage to diary recordings, Jane Horrocks, Molly Vivian, Francesca Levi and Camilla Clarke have created a gift shop full of treasures and horrors.

Set Me Free by dreamthinkspeak
The world premiere of Unchain Me, a major new Brighton Festival commission specific to the critically acclaimed dreamthinkspeak site, directed by the company’s artistic director, Tristan Sharps, will run until Sunday 12 June.
Unchain Me will weave its way through the streets and buildings of central Brighton, entering well-known public spaces and previously hidden corridors and tunnels.
Using headphones and a mobile device, a specially designed app will allow audiences to navigate the production and interact with each other and the live performers.
Tuesday May 3 and Sunday June 12.
Tickets cost £30.
There are ten different meeting points where you start the performance.
