The eighth edition of Big Freeze at the ‘G was another big success, with former footy stars and celebrities making a splash in support of Neale Daniher and his Fight MND campaign.

This year’s sliders were Ash Barty (Australian Tennis Legend), Hamish Blake (Comedian), Jakara Anthony (Winter Olympian), Terry Daniher (Essendon Football Great), Justin Lange (Australian Cricket Great), David Neitz (Melbourne football great), Eddie Betts (Carlton and Adelaide excellent footballer), Rhonda Burchmore (host), Bec Maddern (television personality) and Andy Maher (radio and television personality) .

With the help of David King and Jordan Lewis, foxfooty.com.au analyzes the costume and splatter of each Big Freeze slider, as well as an overall rating out of 20.

1. TERRY DANIHER

Suit: Michael Dundee from Crocodile Dundee – and he absolutely nailed it! He had it all, with a knife, a hat, a fake tan, blonde hair and an inflatable “Roger” crocodile.

Entrance and splash: Using his teeth to grab the toy crocodile, Daniher entered the freezing water on his back to make a big splash.

Best Quote: “I’ve watched his (Paul Hagan) movies three times and I still laugh about it every time… Now he’s a knife.”

David King’s notes: 20/20 (10/10 for the costume, 10/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 20/20 (10/10 for the costume, 10/10 for the slide)

2. MADDERN BEC

Suit: Trinity from Matrix, with black suit jacket, skirt, wig and sunglasses.

Entrance and splash: Probably the fastest slider, gaining sufficient speed on approach while she screamed (probably in fear). Hit the water hard after a long hang, but somehow manage to keep your sunglasses on.

Best Quote: “I thought it (the jacket) would give me a lot of coverage, although now I’m worried about the zipper.”

David King’s notes: 19/20 (9/10 for the costume, 10/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 20/20 (10/10 for the costume, 10/10 for the slide)

3. DAVID NEITZ

Suit: A moving nod to Neale Daniher, dressed as Sir William Wallace from Braveheart. Great face paint, attire, and almighty sword. Luckily he was wearing bike shorts under the kilt.

Entrance and splash: The 100th Big Freeze slider delivered. With the sword raised high in the air, he screamed all the way with eyes wide open down the slide before going in first for a big splash.

Best quote: “I’m Braveheart – a real nod to Neale, the bravest player I’ve ever met… Neale Daniher brought all the footy clans together and united them for freedom against MND. Neale, you are a superstar, we love you.

David King’s notes: 19/20 (10/10 for the costume, 9/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 19/20 (10/10 for the costume, 9/10 for the slide)

4. ASH BARTY

Suit: I went all out for Rafiki from The Lion King. The mask/helmet was exceptional.

Entrance and splash: Very thematic entry, holding a stuffed lion in the air – just like Rafiki did in the movie – before hitting the water. Leads to a big splash.

Best quote: “Turns out they don’t make adult Rafiki costumes, so I fit into a 12-year-old’s costume.”

David King’s notes: 19/20 (10/10 for the costume, 9/10 for the slide)

Notes from Jordan Lewis: 17/20 (8/10 for the costume, 9/10 for the slide)

5. JAKARA ANTOINE

Suit: Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, complete with costume and bow and arrow.

Entrance and splash: You could tell she’s used to the cold, delivering a big splash on entry. Didn’t stop smiling the whole time. It would have been a perfect score if she had shot the arrow down the slide.

Best Quote: N / A

David King’s notes: 18/20 (10/10 for the costume, 8/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 17/20 (9/10 for the costume, 8/10 for the slide)

6. EDDIE’S PARIS

Suit: The Black Panther from the Marvel series, complete with mask.

Entrance and splash: After calling on the crowd to heave up the slide, he hit the water hard in the back as he crossed himself. It’s fair to say Eddie didn’t like the cold. Jason Dunstall reckons Betts said “oh chills” when he got out of the bath.

Best Quote: “I’ve avoided ice baths as a player…but I like the way we’re in the pocket.”

David King’s notes: 17/20 (9/10 for the costume, 8/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 17/20 (9/10 for the costume, 8/10 for the slide)

=7. HAMISH BLAKE

Suit: Queen Elsa from Frozen. Unfortunately, the dress slipped slightly on entry. Thank God he had shorts under the dress.

Entrance and splash: Stole the show, as expected. Costume on point and the entry was excellent, with arms and legs at the entry to create maximum splash. Then sank to the bottom and extended his arms a la Randy Orton to wave to the crowd.

Best Quote: “I gave the honors to my daughter to choose who I was going to be. I just hope I totally keep it up there. I would like to thank Max Gawn for donating his football shorts… just in case we see too much of Elsa… I thought I did the corset better than that.

David King’s notes: 16/20 (7/10 for the costume, 9/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 17/20 (7/10 for the costume, 10/10 for the slide)

=7. JUSTIN LANGER

Suit: Rocky Balboa, with a golden dress, a wig with black hair and gloves around his neck.

Entrance and splash: The 99th slider Big Freeze was no problem. A good splash after jumping into the water with legs and arms outstretched. Powerful double cobra fist pump after emerging from the water.

Best Quote: “I love Rocky. I used to drink the eggs raw when I was younger, hit the carcasses – Rocky is a big hero.

David King’s notes: 17/20 (8/10 for the costume, 9/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 16/20 (8/10 for the costume, 8/10 for the slide)

9. RHONDA BURCHMORE

Suit: Exceptional. Poison Ivy from Batman. Red hair and a green bodysuit with leaves that she had sewn herself.

Entrance and splash: Terrible rollercoaster-style scream as she rolled down the slide. Then an incredible lack of splashing as the slide hit the water, with Rhonda’s head staying above the water the whole time.

Best Quote: “Neale, this is for you… Only for you would I do something like this.” I hate the cold, I hate everything, I’ve never been on a toboggan.

David King’s notes: 15/20 (10/10 for the costume, 5/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 15/20 (10/10 for the costume, 5/10 for the slide)

10. ANDY MAHER

Suit: Mash’s Radar O’Reilly, playing off his own nickname “Radar”. It’s fair to say it didn’t go so well with Kingy and Jordy.

Entrance and splash: Went completely under. Exceptional entry on his back and timed into the ice bath, letting out a loud scream as he recognized the crowd. Managed to keep his teddy bear accessory dry as well.

Best Quote: “That’s four of the 45 most in the audience.”

David King’s notes: 12/20 (4/10 for the costume, 8/10 for the slide)

Note from Jordan Lewis: 11/20 (3/10 for the costume, 8/10 for the slide)
