Eurovision 2021 Semi-Final 2 preview: more catchy tunes, crazy costumes and Flo Rida – here are the numbers to watch in the second semi-final
Ireland may not have reached the final hurdle, but there are still 17 acts vying for their place in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest.
The next batch of acts will take place on the Rotterdam stage this evening ahead of Saturday’s final.
Leslie Roy waved the flag for Ireland earlier this week, but his passionate efforts weren’t enough to make the top 10. Although Tuesday was considered the strongest semi-final among fans, n ‘ fear – there are still a lot of Europop bangers coming up tonight. . And if that’s not enough to get you staring, there’s even an appearance of Flo-Rida …
Here are my top five picks for the second Eurovision Song Contest:
Iceland: Daði og Gagnamagnið, ’10 years’
All eyes are on Iceland to return with another catchy hit, following the success of their song “Think About Things” last year. Although it never made it to the Eurovision Song Contest after the event was canceled last year, the song went viral and was a huge hit on TikTok. This year’s song is arguably just as catchy, and their global fanbase will surely get them all the way to the finale.
However, a positive Covid test in their camp means they won’t perform live, with a recording of their rehearsal instead.
Bulgaria: VICTORIA, “ Growing up is aging ”
No, it’s not Billie Eilish you’re hearing – it’s Bulgarian singer VICTORIA, who started her career on X-factor Bulgaria. “Growing Up Is Getting Old” is very similar to something the “bad guy” singer would perform, and it’s well written. It’s easy to see why this is the top bookmaker to place tonight, although I don’t see it as a winner on Saturday.
Serbia: hurricane, ‘Loco Loco’
When you think of what a typical Eurovision song looks like, this is it. The female trio is no stranger to the Eurovision scene either. Member Sanja Vučić represented Serbia in 2016, while Ksenija Knežević provided chorus for her father Knez when she entered Eurovision 2015 ‘Adio’. This year’s entry isn’t too original, but it’s full of energy, fun costumes and dance moves.
Greece: Stefania, ‘Last Dance’
It won’t be singer Stefania’s last dance on the Eurovision stage anyway, as the 18-year-old is another favorite to advance to the final on Saturday. His second rehearsal this week featured a very technical background with some special effects. The song itself has a catchy dance beat and wouldn’t be missing at a European club.
San Marino: Senhit, ‘Adrenalina’
In a very random turn of Eurovision, American rapper Flo Rida joins Italian singer Senhit on Thursday’s stage to represent San Marino. Confirming the news during BBC Four’s coverage of the first semi-final, she said she was “super, super happy” to have Flo Rida join her for the competition. The staging and costumes are wacky to say the least, but the stardom’s appearance could give the country a boost – given that they’ve only made it to the final twice in the past 14 years.
Others to watch:
Switzerland is the second favorite of bookmakers with their song “Tout lUnivers”, an emotional song performed in French. And keep an eye out for Moldova, whose song “SUGAR” is sure to make you dance.
