Matrix Resurrections Video explores Neo & Trinity’s Romance

New featurette for Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections explores the rekindled love of Keanu Reeves ‘Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity

A new video for Matrix resurrections explores the long-standing romance of Neo and Trinity. Keanu Reeves ‘Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity first met in 1999 The matrix where they became allies and ultimately lovers. Neo was “the one,” as the prophecy predicted, who was destined to end The Matrix, though his journey to complete this mission was strewn with death and sacrifice throughout the sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and Matrix revolutions.

The original trilogy finale apparently left both Neo and Trinity dead, as The Matrix was rebooted after Agent Smith’s eventual defeat and neither character had yet resurfaced. However, in the final scene, the Oracle says that she suspects Neo and Trinity will be seen again, although she doesn’t spell out exactly how that would be. According to The online matrix, the online RPG game that followed the release of Matrix revolutions, neither Neo nor Trinity’s bodies were ever recovered from Machine City, the Earth base of the machines, leaving their fate in question.

In a new featurette released by BM for Matrix resurrections, Neo and Trinity’s love and romance come to the fore, which seems to be the focus of the franchise’s new sequel. The behind-the-scenes video features new footage and interviews with the film’s cast and crew, including Lana Wachowski, who cites the distance between the latest sequel and the short story as a major factor in how chemistry is reflected for Neo and Trinity. For new franchise stars, including Jonathan Groff, seeing the duo on set was “surprisingly emotional” because the characters have become so iconic since their first appearance in 1999. Take a look at the featurette below:

Reeves has remained constantly busy since the release of the first trilogy for The matrix, having played new franchise characters (John wick), returning to the well of the ancients (Bill & ted). The actor has just completed the fourth film in the John wick series and is already preparing to shoot the fifth entry. Moss has also worked regularly on a number of projects since The Matrix, including Netflix’s Marvel shows, Jessica jones and Iron fist, and recently played Rebecca Pruitt in the series Tell me a story for CBS.

Neo and Trinity (as well as Morpheus for that matter) have become synonymous with The matrix franchise, serving as the backbone of the series from the start. The love story aspect has been rife since the first movie, with the Oracle telling Trinity that she would fall in love with “The One” who ends up being Neo. Their love affair blossomed throughout the trilogy and despite all the technical magic, awesome stunts, and wired kung fu, the love affair between the two served as the reason to fight the machines in first place. We don’t know how the story in Matrix resurrections will unfold, but the focus on these two characters seems fitting for a franchise that’s been built from that relationship.
