Michelle Dockery struggled with Downton Abbey pongy costumes | Entertainment
Michelle Dockery had to deal with smelly costumes on ‘Downton Abbey’.
The 40-year-old actress plays Lady Mary Talbot in the big-screen sequel ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ and insists the costumes now smell ‘beautiful’, but were more pungent at the start of the television series.
Speaking at the film’s world premiere in London on Monday night (25.04.22), Michelle said: “It’s become such a thing.
“The suits are absolutely gorgeous and they all smell great. In the beginning there were some very, very old suits that we wore. They are amazing suits and everyone smells great.”
Michelle’s character takes on a larger role in the film, and she has taken on the additional responsibility that has been given to Lady Mary.
The ‘Anatomy of a Scandal’ star said, “It’s awesome. She really takes responsibility and her role in the house and she really enjoys it. She loves being the boss.”
Dockery felt it was “special” to reunite with her co-stars for the second film based on the period drama, which was originally a hit TV series.
She explained, “It’s so special. We’ve loved coming back and filming together and being here tonight is such a celebration of the work everyone has done.”
Michelle was unable to join her co-stars in the south of France during filming and was “envious” to have missed filming in the sun.
She said, “I was so envious of them all on the beach.”
