Naomi Star Kaci Walfall “Can’t Wait” To Get A Superhero Costume

This week saw the series premiere of Naomi, the latest DC TV series to debut on The CW. The series tells the story of the unconventional alien origin of Naomi McDuffie (Kaci Walfall), a character who had a relatively new, but fan-favorite tenure within the DC Universe. One of the key aspects of Naomi’s comedic tenure has been her distinct superhero costume, and some have started to wonder if her TV counterpart might get one soon as well. In a recent roundtable press interview, Walfall questioned whether Naomi’s superhero costume is on the way or not, but said she “can’t wait” to get one.
“I think the costume in the comics is amazing and I can’t wait for Naomi to get one,” Walfall explained.
In the comics, created by Brian Michael Bendis, David Walker, and Jamal Campbell, Naomi is a teenage girl who quickly realizes that she is the only descendant of an overpowered alien race. This ultimately gives her a tracksuit tied to her energy powers, which she ultimately wears as a member of the Young Justice and the Justice League.
“It’s a privilege to play her,” Walfall said in an interview with the press. “And going into that world, it allows for representation in a lot of ways. It allows for representation for people who look like Naomi, but it also allows for representation for a lot of people. She loves comics a lot. She skateboarded. . She’s super confident. She knows all these languages. She’s in all these AP classes. I think there are so many different and great things that Naomi does that people can relate to, but they also probably can. relate to the quality of its moral compass. “
“I read the comic when I got the part,” Walfall revealed. “I’ve played a few characters that have been in books or characters that have been in movies before, but that’s my first lead role. So of course I got my hands on the comics. J feel like it would be kind of an injustice not to … It’s such a great story, and such a great story. Justice League the problems in which it finds itself too. Of course, I have the comics. i wear the Naomi cartoon in my bag all the time when I’m at work. I think this is such a good point of reference. It really makes me feel character-centered. It was probably the first thing I did when I found out I had booked the role. “
New episodes of Naomi airs Tuesdays at 9 / 8c on The CW.
