The best action movies to get your adrenaline pumping

If you’re looking for a little adrenaline rush on a Friday night, but want an activity that will keep you safe without a mark on your permanent record, it’s time to shoot an action movie. Watch Hollywood’s best takes and throw a lot more punches than humanly possible and follow their fight scene with a car chase that would result in hundreds of unnecessary deaths (it’s a movie, don’t think about it. pas) is a much safer way to live vicariously through the cinema and dreams of being a secret agent. These films are the reason why you invested in the big screen television with high definition audio system.

The action genre isn’t always taken seriously by critics, but we have nothing but respect for the choreographers, stuntmen, and crews who work tirelessly to create breathtaking sequences that deserve a place in it. history of cinema.

From classic jungle battles for human survival and intricate martial arts battles to death-defying stunts that test the limits of special effects, we’ve put together a list of the best action movies for you. movie night. Make your heart beat (safe).

1. Bourne’s ultimatum

It’s hard to pick a favorite among Bourne’s first three films (we don’t need to talk about the fourth and fifth), but one thing we can say for sure is that if things go wrong, we want Jason Bourne / David Webb / whatever he wants to be called on our end. Bourne’s identity gave us death by pen and Bourne’s supremacy showed redemption by apology, but it was in Bourne’s ultimatum that viewers got to see the CIA assassin at his best. Will we ever look at the station signs the same way? (Insert Julia Stiles’ smirk.) Probably not.

2. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

There is no shortage of amazing martial arts movies that could make the list (Detective story, prodigal son, the 36e Shaolin Chamber, The Way of the Dragon and Ong Bak, to name a few), but Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was one of the greatest crosses for North American audiences. The brilliant Ang Lee, who can literally lead any genre, is at his best in this epic Qing Dynasty story. Chow Yun-fat, Michelle Yeoh, and Zhang Ziyi perform their superb combat choreography beautifully while flying through trees, fighting on rooftops and fighting on horseback.

3. Atomic blonde

For moviegoers who want an MI6 agent without all the fancy gimmicks, there’s Atomic blonde. Set in Berlin in 1989, Charlize Theron is an agent (maybe a double?) Who can handle the KGB in more style than a spy in a black tuxedo. The fight sequences in the action movie are just flawless, and seeing Theron’s characters get injured makes the movie even more realistic. Well, as realistic as an action movie can be.

4. Mad Max: Fury Road

Nice day for an action movie, isn’t it? Reiterating our previous argument As Charlize Theron is one of the best action stars of all time, the South African actor starred alongside Tom Hardy and Nicholas Hoult in George Miller’s 2015 cinematic masterpiece. The film’s intensity and non-stop fight scenes make it one of the best action movies of all time, while eight Oscar nominations helped make it Mad Max: Fury Road one of the few action films to gain critical attention. Plus, it will give you all the nightmares, so it’s also fun for horror fans!

5. The matrix

Wachowski’s entry into the world of The Matrix was in the future, a fitting placement since the 1999 film was way ahead of its time. Between intricate and beautifully choreographed fight scenes and special effects that effectively changed movies forever, The matrix remains cemented as a turning point in filmmaking, with a new sophistication in action scenes that were largely invisible to North American audiences. We all took the red pill. The second and third films unfortunately rushed to theaters and didn’t capture the same magic as the original, but we have high hopes for the highly anticipated fourth installment.

6. John wick

Our second double on the list after Charlize Theron is Keanu Reeves, who got ready for the upcoming fourth Matrix movie by starring in the John Wick Trilogy. contrary to The matrix cinema, the John wick saga continues to raise the action bar with each movie, pushing the boundaries of action movies and consistently delivering electrifying footage. It shouldn’t be said, but never kill a retired hitman’s dog. John Wick is back and you should definitely be afraid.

7. Mission: Impossible – Fallout

You can’t really go wrong with any of the Impossible mission movies (okay, the second one wasn’t great, but it’s still watchable), but if you want the best of the best it’s 2018 Fall. Do you like your action movies with death defying stunts? Watch Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) literally hang from a helicopter. Do you like your action movies to follow more classic sequences? How about Henry Cavill having a brawl that could leave viewers with a mild concussion. Car chases, motorcycle chases, mountain climbing, oh, and the moment the audience sees Cruise jumping between buildings and breaking his ankle. This is why it is better to watch action movies rather than playing them.

8. Predator

We can’t have a list of the best action movies without including one of the greatest action stars of all time – Arnold. The man who only needs a name, mainly because his last name drives our spell checker crazy, the action hero starred in the 1987 film as a Dutchman, a soldier sent to Guatemala for save politicians. Surprise, surprise, everything related to politics is not what it seems (the Governor excluded, of course). Unlike other must-see action movies starring Schwarzenegger (we did!), This time around Arnold beats the machines instead of being one. Intense and high energy until the final climax, Predator continues to be a must-have watch for all action fans.

9. Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2

Since Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 and 2004 films are one big story, we counted them as one entry on our list. So double the action. Uma Thurman is, in a nutshell, the “coolest” of The Bride, an assassin left for dead by her crew when she finds out she is pregnant and tries to leave the world of death and violence. Thurman then spends two films taking revenge in various creative and legitimately terrifying ways, while also having flashbacks to his training (could we come out of a coffin if we were buried alive?). Unlike most of Tarantino’s films, which focus on more senseless and far too much violence directed at women, Kill Bill has a goal and a heroine with a lot of worthy opponents. RIP to the scalp of the great Lucy Liu.

ten. 1917

Sam mendes 1917 It might sound like an odd choice for the best action movies, but hear us out. The epic war story was brilliantly filmed to make the movie look like it was shot in just two takes. There are massive explosions, choreographed fight scenes, epic battle montages, and clearly defined heroes. The mind-boggling historical drama was nominated for 10 Oscars and won three, including Best Visual Effects because, like we said, it’s an amazing action flick.
