Wednesday Morning Performers Greet Newcomers, Plan Summer Show | Arts
CAMBRIDGE – Every Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m., a group of artists from the Cambridge area come together to plan shows and exhibitions, compare works, renovate a space in a new location, and plan visits to museums and museums. local places. They are currently focusing on the first show in the new spaces, which will be held on Friday June 11 (pre-show 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) and Saturday June 12 (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.).
The Wednesday morning performers met weekly for many years at the Market Square grocery store, until COVID-19 called off the gatherings. The group resumed operations in September 2020 in the main lobby of the newly donated space in a former church at 900 Peachblossom Avenue; the building is called Peach Blossom Place. With face masks and plenty of room to maintain social distancing, artists have been busy preparing for current and future artistic endeavors.
The group is over 20 people and meets for about an hour. They adjourn after the business meeting, to renovate and organize their new work rooms where they will soon practice their art and offer a wide variety of courses.
Artistic media of all kinds are represented in the talented group: acrylic, watercolor and oil paintings; writing; photography, fiber art, sculpture in wood, clay and papier-mâché; singing; pastel and pencil drawings; reused furniture and household items; stained glass, and more.
The WMA supports the Dorchester Center for the Arts, participating in DCA shows and the gift shop. The works of WMA members are available on the group’s fairs and on their facebook page, www.facebook.com/WednesdayMorningArtists/.
There are periodic excursions to places in the region where artistic opportunities are sought or museums visited. When the renovated spaces of Peachblossom are completed, a series of loudspeakers is planned.
Everyone is welcome, whether they are novices or seasoned professionals, or those who would just like to get involved with art in their community.
