X-Men Villain Cosplay Makes Azazel’s Craziest Comic Costume A Reality
In an incredible cosplay of a notorious X-Men villain, Azazel, the cosplayer not only captures the essence of the character, but also sports his craziest costume!
The seemingly demonic mutant known as Azazel, who is the longtime father x-men Nightcrawler, comes to life in his craziest comic book costume in an all new cosplay. Azazel and Mystique are the parents of Nightcrawler, a mutant hero who took on both of his parents’ physical traits as well as an aspect of his father’s power. Azazel is a demonic-looking red mutant with a number of powers that include teleportation across the Brimstone Dimension. Nightcrawler is blue, like his mother’s natural form, but otherwise resembles his father in appearance and powers. Now Nightcrawler’s father, Azazel, has come to life in an insanely realistic cosplay.
Azazel made his Marvel Comics debut in Weird X-Men #428 by Chuck Austen and Sean Phillips. In the issue, the circumstances surrounding Nightcrawler’s birth are explored with the X-Men member’s father revealed for the first time. Like his son, Azazel has the ability to teleport across the Brimstone Dimension, though his ability is more powerful since he doesn’t have to see the area he wants to teleport to. Azazel’s other powers include shapeshifting, minor telepathy, hypnosis, and supposed immortality.
In a Reddit post by user GQSioux, the cosplayer posted a number of images that included the cosplayer dressed as Azazel alongside images of the character from the comics for comparison. Complete with red-painted skin, yellow eyes, and demonic makeup, the cosplayer absolutely nailed Azazel’s look. Not only that, but the costume the cosplayer chose looks exactly like Azazel’s craziest. The costume appears to have been made from the bones of a demonic creature, a white costume carved entirely from large, deformed skulls with a shoulder piece made from the skull of a horned beast and fur used as cape.
Azazel wore this now-iconic costume in his second appearance in Weird X-Men #429. In the issue, Azazel and the rest of his demonic crew open a portal from the Brimstone dimension in an attempt to bring Nightcrawler into their seemingly evil fold. When fans first see Azazel in this issue, he’s wearing the same costume used in this epic cosplay.
The cosplay photos garnered positive praise as the costume chosen by the x-men cosplaying really brings home the fact that Azazel is not just a mutant but a demonic heirloom of a species known as Neyaphem. Also, the strange blueish lighting used by the cosplayer really amplifies Azazel’s demonic nature and brings Azazel to life. Additionally, after being seen wearing this costume in his second panel appearance, the costume has become a staple for Azazel as one that totally encapsulates the character in all of his demonic, heavy metal glory.
